Mary Elizabeth (Leach) Raines, who has a background in painting and cartooning, has been creating fractal art since 2007. In addition to wall displays, her fractal artwork has been used for book covers, and to illustrate books and websites.
"Fractal art is created on a computer from mathematical algorithms that offer a limitless number of possiblities, as fractals are shapes that can be endlessly subdivided and altered. The serious fractal artist chooses the algorithms, combines unique structural layers from them, selects colors, light, and shading, adjusts the parameters of the data, and refines the end result. This process has become much more sophisticated in recent years. I look on my fractal art like this: my computer and I dream together, and then I make those dreams visible". Mary Elizabeth Raines lives in Sedona, Arizona.
